Some of you will remember that, back in 2009, we invited patients to participate in a consultation on our proposal to move to a new site and improve our facilities for patients. The new location identified was part of the Silver Leys site on Hadham Road.
One of the main issues identified during this consultation process was the problem with public transport and there was also concern raised regarding not having a town centre facility. We have listened to these concerns but resolving these problems has been difficult and for the past 30 months we have been working on these and have also continued to look for a suitable alternative site, however no appropriate ones have become available.
However we are pleased to advise that we believe we have now found a way forward. We now plan to progress with the Silver Leys development whilst still maintaining a town centre presence, which will initially be part of the South Street building, although this will be reassessed on an ongoing basis..
The Doctors, practice staff and the Primary Care Trust want to continue to improve the quality of
service provided to the patients of South Street Surgery and we feel that building a new purpose built Practice on part of the Silver Leys site and maintaining our presence in the town in the medium term will enable us to do this.
The Practice has outgrown its current premises and is severely restricted when it comes to developing new services due to lack of space. Our aim is to ensure that patients receive the highest possible quality care in a modern and welcoming environment that is fit for purpose and has room for expansion into the future. We feel that our current plans will enable this and we are excited about the prospect of fulfilling the long-term aim of the Practice and continue to improve on the services offered to our patients.
As well as offering the benefits of a purpose built building the new Surgery would also allow us to look at the development of a wide range of additional services and will also offer.
- - A fully Disabilities Discrimination Act compliant building with specialised access for wheelchairs, pushchairs and those with mobility difficulties.
- - Increased car parking.
- - Explore the potential of consultants offering some of their clinics at the premises.
- - Adhere to environmental guidelines and meet the requirements of sustainable buildings
If you would like to see or discuss the plans with us we will be running a drop in evening at Bishops Park surgery next to Tesco on Wednesday 15th February from 7pm to 9pm and look forward to seeing you there.
