South Street Surgery were awarded the accolade of IIP in February 2005 which proves it is fully committed to developing its staff to provide high quality care. It is the first surgery it the area to achieve this national quality mark, which also recognises it is an excellent training practice. Its 10 GPs and one Nurse Partner employ 50 staff, who have undergone a rigorous and thorough assessment of verbal, documentary and observed evidence since it started working on IIP in October 2004. All the information was passed on to external assessors and the final assessment at the end of January 2005 confirmed the accreditation and a certificate provided. To gain the award, the practice had to compare itself with standard requirements, identify and provide feedback and encouragement of good practice and of continuous improvement that be helpful to the surgery and its people.
